What is this?

Each crane has a unique combination of 3 coloured rings on their right leg. This marking code helps to identify the crane in the wild.

Character profile:

Green Yellow Black was obsessed by purple flowers as a chick and tried to and eat as many as he could whilst out in the rearing enclosure. He is the sibling of Yellow Green Black  (ringed Black Green Black) but amazingly hatched 3 days later than his sibling egg.  Sadly he was diagnosed as having cataracts prior to the move to Somerset, and has been moved to Pensthorpe Conservation Trust along with Green White Black where he will be well looked after.  He is scheduled to have an operation in mid January 2015.  He has been named Pippin by the Pensthorpe team.
