Character profile:

January 2015: Yellow Blue Black (Gary) was a rather small, skinny, clingy crane as a chick  - but is also sweet natured and gentle. He has no siblings.  He has become a core part of this year's cohort but can still be a little beggy. He became one of the 'Kingsmoor 9' - the breakaway group of 9 youngsters that spent most of December on Kingsmoor to the west of Illchester. Rather than return with this group at the end of December, Gary has remained with Pepe and some of the older birds in the Wetmoor area near Muchelney. July 2015: Gary has spent the spring and summer mainly feeding on Nortmoor (Aller) and Northmoor near East Lyng, and roosting most of the time on West Sedgemoor.  The whole non-breeding flock appear to be thriving on the Levels and Moors this year. February 2016: Gary spent a rather unremarkable  autumn and winter of 2015/16 on the Somerset Levels and Moors spending time in a flock that fed on the whole across Wetmoor, Aller moor, and West Sedgemoor. He is likely to remain as part of the non-breeding flock through the coming Spring and Summer.  Nov 17:  Seen early in the year with Acorn but after that disappeared.  He has rejoined the flock for the Winter.   Sept 18:  Gary was not observed during the breeding season.    Sept 2019:  Gary was last observed in Somerset in January bur disappeared during the Spring/Summer.  On 19th September he was photographed in Wiltshire with Gemma.  A ringed bird had been seen with her earlier in the summer but not identified so this could have been Gary.  In early December Gary was identified with Gemma in Wiltshire so these are now presumed to be a pair.  2020:     Gary and Gemma have been observed with the flock on West Sedgemoor during the Autumn.    Sept 2021:  On 9th April it was reported from Wiltshire that Gary was observed in Gemma's territory so could be incubating. 9th June it was reported that the pair had two well grown chicks.  One chick was lost c 20th May.  The family have been observed with the flock on West Sedgemoor during September.    Autumn 2022:   Gary and Gemma spent the winter on West Sedgemoor, Somerset Levels and Moors and returned to their Wiltshire territory in the spring. They were reported to have hatched 1 chick on 24th April.  In May it was confirmed that they had 2 chicks.  In October they were observed on W Sedgemoor with 1 fledged juvenile.  The other may have been with them but they were part of a large flock with other juveniles around so difficult to confirm.
