May 2011: Gizmo is the only crane so far where both wild German parents are ringed. Sadly his sibling egg was infertile and was not transported back to the UK. He is a fairly timid chick and was scared to leave its coop for a number of days! June 2011: Gizmo is now starting to come out of itself and seems to be forming a bond with Black Red, the youngest crane. August 2011: Gizmo is a lot more confident around the others and the crane parents. He loves to search for invertebrates and is often seen chasing about the enclosure after a tasty treat! October 2011: Gizmo has become a well-integrated member of the flock of 2010 and 2011 cranes that are now feeding and roosting together out on the Levels and Moors. December 2011: Gizmo was named by Middlezoy Primary school in early November, but was sadly taken by a fox near to where he had been roosting on December 9th 2011. We think that he may have taken himself away from the group to recover from illness (which the cranes often seem to do) which may have made him more vulnerable to attack. He will be missed by the project team.
