Tough old birds!

Flying over Oath Lock (Paul Hockey)

The eighteen cranes have had a tough time over the festive period with some seriously cold and snowy conditions, but thanks to the support of a local farmer/landowner who has been putting out a little supplementary feed they are all looking pretty healthy!  Thankfully, things have warmed up a little now, and the birds have recently been observed picking over an old dung heap, presumably finding all kinds of tasty morsels, and also mooching about in fields stocked with sheep, digging around in the soft ground.  Vince (who had developed a nasty limp) is now also looking a whole lot better...maybe he just didn't like the rock hard ground conditions!
