Character profile:
June 2013: Misty Moor is a very confident, stocky little crane even though he is the youngest by a week and definitely the baby of the bunch. However, this bird can definitely hold his own and always seems to be getting into scraps with larger birds. He is an 'only chick' , his sibling egg remaining in a nest in Germany for his parents to rear. September 2013: Misty Moor unfortunately sustained some kind of head injury - perhaps a bash whilst in the pen and learning to fly - or a stab from another bird. This meant that he was a bit uncordinated and dizzy for a few weeks and he remained up at Slimbridge keeping Lucky (with the broken wing) company whilst he recovered. He was moved to the release pen in Somerset on 18th September. January 2014: Misty Moor was released in October, and despite being released alone, he quickly integrated with the older birds, spending the autumn foraging with the flock on West Sedgemoor, along the Stoke St. Gregory ridge, and the winter on splashy pasture land on Stanmoor near the village of Stoke St. Gregory. The deep and prolonged flooding that affected the Levels and Moors over the winter of 2013/14 did not seem to have had much of an effect on his welfare or integration and he was seen frequently in with the flock over the Spring. August 2014: We last had a positive sighting of Misty Moor in May 2014.... and it is not known what has happened to him. We are awaiting a positive sighting.... July 2015: With still no news of Misty Moor we can only assume that he has died – cause unknown.
