Character profile:
June 2013: Lucky can be quite aggressive when there is food to be had, but spends the rest of his time happily with the other birds. He is the sibling of Acorn - his sister. September 2013: Lucky sadly crashed into one of the decoys within the pen during routine 'dog-aversion' training and broke his wing. It was pinned, and he is expected to make a full recovery, but he had to remain at Slimbridge whilst the other 19 birds were transported down in late August. He was moved to the release pen in Somerset on 18th September prior to release. November 2013: Lucky remained within the release aviary through October, and was regularly walked to check on his ability to fly - which sadly was not steady or confident enough to allow his safe release. With the Somerset aiviary getting wet with winter's approach, plans are being made to transfer him back to a special aviary at Slimbridge where he will receive physiotherapy on his wing in anticipation of a possible release later in the winter. January 2014: Sadly, despite his physio, Lucky had to remain in captivity, as his wing did not recover as well as hoped. He was moved to WWT Washington in Northumberland. In January 2014 the children of North Newton Primary School read about White-blue-yellow and asked if they could champion him and give him the name Lucky. They hope this might give him better luck in the future! August 2014: Sadly.... despite a lot of care, and his naming, Lucky had to be put down, after taking a turn for the worst in the summer of 2014.
